There's a plastic shield on the biggest cog on the front set of gears on my bike. They seem to break really easily, and the one on my newest bike has just broken as well. I presume it's to stop your pants getting ripped by the gears spinning, but whenever the chain slips off when I go into the 3rd gear on the right, I lose resistance and hit my knee. I very nearly had an accident the other day when this happened on a cycle path next to a main road. It was a clear plastic guard that's screwed, with 4 screws, to the biggest cog next to the pedals. Can you buy new ones? I can see there being loads of them as they're only screwed on, but I just need a name so I can start searching. Here's the bike http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverfox-Slither-Speed-Unisex-Mountain/dp/B000N6SR2E and you can see the guard in the picture fairly clearly. Thanks for the help! :)
Answer
I haven't seen the chain guards like you've described for sale by themselves. The online web sites don't list any. Most bikes don't have or need a chain guard like you have described. Your chain should not come off the largest chain ring. If it does, then the front derailleur needs adjustment. There are two screws on the front derailleur that set the high and low limits for chain travel. Adjust the high limit screw so that the chain stays on the big ring.

Answer
The Chainring Nut Wrench makes chainring bolt installation and removal easy. It securely holds the slotted nut to prevent spinning when tightening or loosening the bolt. And, it's double-ended to fit most slotted-type nuts, including Campagnolo chainring bolt nuts. This is what you want is you want to remover your crank set. Hope this helps. http://www.petracycles.co.uk/ccp2c-cotterless-crank-puller-p-11550.html
