Answer
Some of the staff that guarded inmates, where my Dad was a counselor, worked out at a camp. They were in need of sparring partners, so they were happy to hear that a martial artist right out of high school was ready to come work out with them. Almost everybody in that business are really good to people who have a good work ethic and they'll help you in all sorts of stuff in martial arts and your personal life.

Another group I worked out with I just met at the gym. They were working the mats and I was doing a spinning (fixed bike) class. I saw them fighting and asked if they could show me some moves. They were more than happy to let me work out with them.

As far as getting into a dojo that would eventually lead to prize fights or a show like the Ultimate Fighter, they usually hold open try outs. Typically those places have all have websites. You'll need some video of your workouts and a brief resume and maybe a referral to get recognized. You might also try your local YMCA wrestling and boxing clubs to get their opinions too.

Will installing gutted mufflers on a 2008 H-D Nightster with a 1200cc fuel injected engine cause any problems?

David

I swapped off the stock mufflers for a set of stock gutted mufflers from a Fat Boy. They fit perfect and the crossover lined up just fine. I am just wondering if the different mufflers can cause any kinds of problems such as burned exhaust valves or the like. And would I see much benefit from a stage one tune?

Answer
You don't HAVE to remap the injection with a muffler change alone....BUT...it WILL run better. HD's run extremely lean, which make them run hot, remapping the injection will cool the engine and oil temp and make it run better....Adding an air cleaner as well will REQUIRE remapping.
Also, adding an air cleaner, exhaust, and having it TUNED with the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner will give you a an additional 12-15 hp.

A Stage 1 download from HD with GUTTED mufflers will work minmal at best...HD's downloads are specifically for Screamin Eagle Air Cleaners and Screamin Eagle mufflers...a gutted stock muffler flows ALOT more air, and won't work with a download as well as SE mufflers...you will aslo most likely have alot of exhaust popping on engine decel...getting too much fuel at 0% throttle position.

Here are some clips from answers to similar questions...they are mainly in reference to a Big Twin, but all info is true for a Sportster as well.

They guys you were talking to are kind of right. With the pipes you are looking at, the bike really does need to have a hi-flo air cleaner put on. The dramatic decrease in restriction and the short length are the reason. Shorter pipes generally cause a drop in power in the low and mid-range, but can be compensated for somewhat by adding a set of Samson Torque Cones. The air cleaner will be needed to let more air in also to help compensate for the increase in exhaust flow. The Screamin Eagle air cleaner is ok, but the Arlen Ness Big Sucker (get the Stage 2 version) is better and about the same price. The S/E uses a shallow, dry filter material similar to a fiber glass mat, the Big Sucker uses a deeper K&N filter that flows considerably more air than the S/E. The stock HD air cleaner is THE most power restricting part on the bike. If you pull off the cover and look at the element, you will see why...it literally starves the engine for air, the reason for this from the factory...EPA NOISE pollution restrictions.
Now this is the MAJOR factor in the situation....DO NOT let anyone talk you into a Power Commander or Vance & Hines Fuel Pak, or ANY type of "piggy back"....FUEL...module!!!
You want the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner!!!
There are several reasons for this.
1. There is almost no room on a Softail to mount an add-on module, it basically get jammed and stuffed under the seat. "piggy back" modules plug in-line between the bikes computer and the wire harness, they are big and bulky and create extra wiring that is a ***** to mount, route and work around.
2. They do not do anything except control fuel, they have no timing or rev limit adjustments. The Power Commander 5 for 09-up bikes does have an Auto-Tune module that will allow the system to adjust the fuel by itself while you ride...BUT it is an additional couple hundred dollars, and you have to add yet another module to allow for timing adjustments...now you have 2 additional modules to try and figure how and where to mount. All together you will end up having arouns $1000 in modules.

The Screamin Eagle Super Tuner is basically nothing but software that reprograms the stock computer. It is a box that goes between 2 cables that link the bike to a PC. Once the computer is programmed and mapped on the dyno, you unplug it....nothing to mount. DO NOT LOSE THE BOX!!!!....if you do and need further tuning in the future for mods done later, you will have to buy another Tuner. The Tuner, once plugged in to a bike is "married" to that bike only and will not work on any other bikes. The Super Tuner has virtually unlimited tuning capabilites. It will allow for fuel mapping, accelerator pump feature for better throttle response, fully adjustable rev limit (do not rev a Softail past 6200, past that, the balancers spin too fast and can fly apart and destroy the engine), fully adjustable timing advance and curve tables, etc. I was amazed at what this thing can do when I was trained on it.
Having the timing properly set makes all the difference in the world. We tested bikes with stock timing and rev limits that had the fuel dialed in perfect for max power, then loaded in performance timing maps and had gains of 5-15 hp & tq.
And there is one more benefit to the Super Tuner compared to the others....The Tuner is about $400, the same as the others, bt no added expenses from add-on modules...its all built in.

Doing all of this, and having the bike tuned, WILL make it run cooler!!! The Twin Cams run hotter than the older Evo's like Mike has. The reasons are being tuned VERY lean for EPA standards and the Twin Cams use oil jets under the pistons. These jets squirt oil onto the bottom of the piston to help cool it. Stock engines run sooooo lean that they cause excessive heat.....here is the oxymoron....because they are so lean, HD designed the oil jets to cool the pistons....what actually happens is the pistons HEAT the oil!!!....tune the engine, richen it up, and the piston cools down, now, the oil can do its job and cool the piston....double cooling effect. Proper tuning will decreae oil temp by as much as 20-25 degress and promote longer, more reliable engine life...and you will FEEL the power increase.....generally, depending on the bike, combination of pipes and air cleaner, and how good the guy tuning the bike is, you can expect 10-15 hp & tq increase.

How many calories should i be burning at the gym? (more info)?

best spinning bike under 500 image

la_dmarma_

i am a 15 y/o female. i am 5'5'' (maybe 5'6'' not quite sure), and weigh 120-125 pounds. when i go to the gym i burn about 500 calories. is this too much, not enough, or just right?

Answer
That's great! It sounds like you've got a good and intense work out. How long does it take you to burn the calories? About 40 minutes?

Do you enjoy it? If you aren't enjoying the activity (once you get going) you can vary your cardio, or bring music to keep it fun. Try different machines (elliptical, treadmill, stair master, arc trainer, outdoor running, stationary bike, spinning classes) or go to cardio classes. There are lot of different kinds.

You should be doing 20-60 minutes of cardio 3-5 days a week for optimal cardio respiratory fitness. A lot of fitness sites recommend burning at least 300 calories per workout, but personally I find that a little slim. It may be that 300 is a number for beginning exercisers, an "entry level" kind of number. 500 sounds great. You go, girl!

You might want to remember that you can also do less if the mood strikes you. Less intense, less frequent, or a shorter period of time...just don't stop altogether.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has guidelines for physical activity on their site below. The recommendations are for healthy adults under 65.

what kind of bmx bike should i get thats very leight and around 500$?

Jordan Wal

i want a bmx bike that wont take too much of a beating because i dont plan on using it on bike jumps but want something just to mess around on that will be easy to 180 on flatground and do huge bunny hops and bar spins. i am hoping someone can reccomend me a bike 20 pounds or lower and around 500. thanks alot

Answer
A light bike won't help you learn tricks, it will only make it easier to do tricks you already know how to do. A light bike won't compensate for poor technique.

That said, 20 lbs is way too light. ANY complete found that weighs 20 lbs will be very weak, and it would cost $1,800+ to get a custom bike to weigh under 20 lbs.

Here are the two best bikes you can get for around $500.

For a project, I need a diamante poem about grandma? Need by Friday!

Answer
A Diamante poem is a 7 line poem in the shape of a diamond. It starts with one topic or subject
and ends in the exact opposite. So you could start with Grandma and end with Grandpa!
There is a specific format for word choice and placement.

Line 1: subject/topic - a noun (line 7 will be the opposite of line 1)

Line 2: two adjectives that describe line 1

Line 3: three -ing verbs about line 1

Line 4: four nouns, the first two are about line 1 and the second two are about line 7

Line 5: three -ing verbs about line 7

Line 6: two adjectives that describe line 7

Line 7: the opposite of line 1 - a noun

OR.......

The Structure of a Diamante Poem
A diamante poem is made up of 7 lines using a set structure:

Line 1: Beginning subject
Line 2: Two describing words about line 1
Line 3: Three doing words about line 1
Line 4: A short phrase about line 1, a short phrase about line 7
Line 5: Three doing words about line 7
Line 6: Two describing words about line 7
Line 7: End subject

When a diamante poem is written it takes on the shape of a diamond.
An example of a diamante poem:-

..........................Bike
.....................Shiny, quiet,
...........Pedaling, spinning, weaving
Whizzing round corners, zooming along roads
.............Racing, roaring, speeding
.....................Fast, loud,
..........................Car

OK...So now Google diamante poems about loved ones,
for ideas and inspiration to write your own...
Good Luck!-----

Lose 45 pounds in 7 months how can i make this possible plz help:)?

Hi im 21 im 192 pounds id like to be 145-150 by the time my husband comes home from Afghanistan. I just started going to the gym im been there every day this week did 1-2 miles onon the tread mill and eating 1400 cal a day plus small wrkouts what else can i add to reach my goal thanks in advance.

Answer
Well, you'll have some harder work to do but its possible... Go get a quick check-up with your doctor first to see if that could cause any damage to you (that's a lot of weight for 7 months) just check and make sure that you're ok to start with this workout plan cus I'm gonna give you an idea of one.

1-2 miles on a treadmill honestly won't do to much for you right now if you're going for more of a speedy loss. I suggest that you start using a spin bike at first to prevent any injuries until you get back into the groove of things seeing as you just started mild injuries like shin splints, rolled/twisted ankles, pulled muscles or other strains. Just until you get back up with your endurance.

There are tons of different exercises and different styles of exercising that you could try. For me personally I do about 40-60min on my spin bike, then 20+min of weights and some core and balance exercises so it's between an hour to two hours.
For you since you're beginning I'd start with an easy stretch, probably about 10min worth of yoga exercises, here's a couple pages of exercises:
http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/yoga/poses/
http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yogapractice/postures.asp
Then move on to about 30min of walking on the treadmill, you could go for 3-5min intervals of running every 8-10min, or you could try 30min on a spin bike switching between higher and low resistance OR you could try a rowing machine like this: http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/images/layout/custom/rowing/WaterRower.gif that would work your whole body, legs for pushing across the rail, arms for pulling, lats for pulling, abs for leaning back and around, overall body cus its cardio
The best thing to do would be to switch around your exercises every day, but still with a base of cardio. Ex. you could do the yoga warm up, then one of the 3 cardio options, then try working on your legs for one day, then the next will be arms to give your legs a bit of a rest, then core for another day, then take a relax day of 30min of yoga (15min before and after) and 30min of one of the cardio options.
Here's a list of basic weight machines that gyms have: http://www.fitnessbliss.com/en/screenshots/images/equipment.gif they usually have directions on the side, if you don't know exactly how to use it, make a list of machines at your gym, then look up how to use them properly so you won't risk injury. Just make sure you stretch after, the same yoga poses for about 10min will do fine.

Other things I'd try would be to cut gluten (no wheat) and dairy from your diet even if you're not gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. Gluten can actually cause the layer of fat in your body to retain more water. The more water you drink, the better it'll be to flush your system. Try to cut down on sugar and high fat foods. Introduce lean protein into your diet, it'll help build up your muscle cus more muscle helps burn fat!

Good for you for getting back out there and setting goals for yourself! Oh and congratulations on your husband coming home :)

Bmx barspin but bike doesnt have it?

Mazda

Hey guys i am on a budget and love bmx bikes and i bought a cheap one for $125 at sportsmart in canada and i found out it doesnt have barspin? So can i get a part to make spin? Or my only choice is buy an expensive bike?

Answer
Not really, the headsets are designed differently as well as the cable stoppers. It would cost a lot to change.

Simple solution: ride with no brakes (on a $125 sportsmart bike the rear brakes are most likely very bad anyway, right?)

What is better for slimming down big legs, running/jogging, or cycling?

best spin bike for women on The Hammer SS by driving a nail through your daily routine
best spin bike for women image

Fleur

I'm currently cycling on a stationary bike thrice a week at "weight loss mode-" the resistance alternates between higher and lower. I'm afraid this will give me bigger legs. I don't want to build any bulk, and I've read about cycling making your legs big. Should I start running instead? I only want to lose fat, not build a lot of muscle.

Answer
Cycling won't make your legs bigger unless you decide to be a track sprinter or train at a low pedalling cadence in big gears. Your current training, being geared to weight loss, will be generally low intensity although as you get more advanced you will be able to do higher intensities to burn off calories faster.

Advice: keep your pedalling cadence relatively high at around 80 -100 rpm and gradually build up intensity. If you really want to slim down get a bike and enjoy touring around your local countryside you will find you can do it for longer because it is great fun, especially if you do it with friends. OR you could try 'spinning' classes at your local gym.

Running/jogging will have similar effects it just depends on which you like best. I live near an international athletics stadium and sometimes see women middle distance runners training. From a blokes point of view the long slim legs are all just terrific!!

This is for the ladies I think...How do I keep from chaffing while Spinning or bike riding?

girl_in_ve

I am a semi-out of shape overweight woman and I have gone spinning two times. I have no problem keeping up or dealing with the 60 minute workout but the guy who runs the program keeps telling me that my butt will toughen up. Ladies I don't have the nerve to tell him that it is not the butt that is getting sore but urr other parts even with a Gel seat. HELP ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Answer
Hum... There are some good suggestions in here and a couple of bad ones as well.

You ought to know, there are really two major problems that can arise from sitting on a bicycle seat.

The first problem is pressure which can cause bruising. A gel seat cover and chamois can help with bruising. Also, your bottom will toughen up in a few weeks and you won't be as troubled by it. Getting off the saddle and pedalling while standing on occaision will help to releive pressure, as well.

The second problem is chaffing. Chaffing is caused by friction and you've got to eliminate the causes of friction to deal with the problem. Chaffing can lead to saddle sores, so you don't want to ignore it.

First, good, snug fitting cycling shorts with a chamois are an absolute necessity. If you already have some tight exercise shorts, you may want to buy cycling briefs with a chamois to go under your exercise shorts. Loose clothing is your enemy as bunching and gathering of fabric causes friction on tender bottom parts.

Secondly, be sure you go commando when you get the cycling shorts. Again, extra layers of fabric are your enemy.

Thirdly, a lubricant like Assos Chamois Cream or Paceline Chamois Butt'r will help. Body Glide may help but I tend to think it is better for preventing blisters where there is skin on skin contact when running (like toes) than for keeping my bottom from chaffing. The Assos product is medicated and will help clear up existing saddle sores and keep them from getting infected. It is, however, very expensive.

Talcum may help. I have never tried that before. Certainly it is cheap enough to try once, though.

Hope this helps.

How is a regular exercise bike different than a spinning bike?

Kimmy

The buzz lately is that you can burn about 500 calories, tone up and lose weight quickly by exercising for only 30 minutes on a spinning bike.

I have a regular exercise bike and cannot afford a spinning bike or classes. Would I be able to achieve the same results by exercising for 30 minutes a day on my exercise bike?

Please explain to me the difference between the two bikes and how they work differently to give different results?

Answer
The primary difference is the adjustability and the quality that goes into the drive mechanism. Spinning bikes, as the name implies, spin a weighted flywheel using the power of your legs. The tension you set, in conjunction with the weight of the flywheel, determine the resistance you feel. This provides a much more realistic effect in terms of how it uses your muscles. A old school excercise bike isnt as good at effectively targeting the muscle used and doesnt provide as much of a realistic cycling feel.

That said, if your goal is just to get a workout in you arent going to miss much. A competitive cyclist would notice the difference but a casual rider just looking to burn some calories probably will notice only the terribly uncomfortable saddle of an old excercise bike.

Think of it as the diffference between running wind sprints vs. running parachute assisted acceleration sprints.... Unless you're a pro athlete working on dropping your 40yd times, wind sprints is just fine. Similar situation here. If you're gonna be heading to the races, start spining.. If you just want a workout save the money.

PS- If you get serious about riding and you really want the best set-up, IMO its using your road bike on resistance trainer like the cycleops fluid2 or something similar. It lets you keep your cockpit setup (duh, its your bike) but gives you the indoor training option for those shoddy days when you dont want to go outside and ride.

One time I washed a pillow and it ripped and a bunch of stuffing came out well I got it all out of the washer and the next time I went to use it, I had your same problem. So I took all the water out with a cup and some towels tipped it over and started looking at everything I took a lot of it apart and turns out there was stuffing from the pillow in there. That was 4 years ago and its still working great. If nothing like that happened then you can find a youtube video on how to repair it. Good luck.

Are there cyclometers for stationary bikes?

best rated spinning bike on Top Rated Exercise Bikes Reviews

With fall and winter coming on, I am finding myself indoors a lot more. My school has some very nice spinning bikes at the gym set off by themselves. However, they don't give any output (cadence, watts, mph, etc). I want to put in a good winter of training but I would like some readings to track my progress. I could get a stand alone heart monitor and try that but do they make cyclometers for stationaries?

Answer
get a heart rate monitor

that;s the bottom line anyway

how many hours did you do, and in what aerobic zones?

miles don;t mean anything
watts either really

a lot of stationary bikes have HRMs, it;s easy to sense heart beat through the hands, but they may not have a lot of statistical reporting

the most basic HRM just says what your heart rate is, right now, no history, no % of max, no nothing, just beats per minute

Cycling (not biking) and walking use almost completely different muscle groups & different "load bearing joints" on the body. I should know - I walk with the aid of a cane - but can ride a bike nearly anywhere I need or want to go.

If you're having a hard time cycling - it could be at least two reasons or a combo of the two.
1) Improper saddle (seat) height. With the ball of your foot centered on the pedal & in the 6 o'clock pedal position, there should be only a SLIGHT bend in the knee. Have your saddle set right for optimal leg extension & power. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html#height

2) You're "pushing" instead of "spinning" the pedals in too high of a gear. "Cadence" is THE key word. You should always be in a gear easy to use with moderate pedal pressure & spin the pedals at a rate or "cadence" of at least 70-90 rpm. Higher cadence but in lower (easier) gears climbing hills - around 95 rpm and above if possible. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gears.html Good cyclist are always around 90 to 105 rpm.

3) If you have a one speed bicycle - there's 99.9% of your problem right there.

What is the best indoor group spin bike for the price? And also if money were no object?

Hoping to hear from group fitness directors, spin class teachers, and any salepeople who can give an unbiased opinion. Looking to buy 20-30 new spin bikes within the next 2 months.

Answer
I'm a customer not an instructor, but I've been to a lot of clubs and rode a lot of spin bikes. The best one I've been on was a Lemond Revmaster. There have been other good ones, but the little design details of the Lemond made it really good for a hard-core roadie like me.

If money were no object, I'd get the CycleOps - link below

What are the special trainers used for spin classes and where can I buy them?

Regina Pha

I go to spin classes and i know that there are special trainers that stick to the pedal, to help me go faster, but I don't know what they're called or where to buy them-can anyone help me?

Answer
You are talking about clipless pedals.

Spin bikes generally use SPD pedals and cleats for your shoes. You can buy the SPD clips at any bike shop or online. They are shaped like a little arrow and are metal. They are the mountain bike shoe cleats. They are under $20.

You will likely have to buy bike shoes too. I strongly recommend mountain bike shoes because they have tread on them whereas road bike shoes have a slick (sometimes carbon) sole. I have taken a bad slip wearing my old road shoes in spin class and then jumping off the bike and walking the tiled hall to the restroom.

check out these links
Shoes:
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=2120

kinda pricey but will last you for years.

Cleats:
http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=1844&subcategory_ID=10047

The cleats are shown on a black shoe insert. You typically will not use that part. Once you get your gear, take it to a bike shop and have someone put on your clips for you. ( or buy it from your local bike shop)
But if you do it yourself, start with your clip placement exactly in the middle. If knee pressure or pain results, they you can play with repositioning the cleats on the bottom of your shoe.

Just verify with your spin instructor that they use SPD compatible pedals. For a time we had 2 bikes with Look system pedals and that is very different ( and highly unlikely in spin class)

How would you heat a 30 by 30 box without using electronic heaters?

best spin bikes commercial image
Q. I have a science project and can't use electronic heaters or commercial installation. How can I keep I warm?

Answer
A few sources of heat that do not directly involve electricity. You don't say how hot you want it so I'll just list a few heat sources.

Water or oil jacket. Pipes or bags around your box with hot fluids circulated through them.

Solar.

Chemical. Break open a few of those hand warmers from the sporting goods store. Candles put off a good amount of heat. Alcohol or Sterno burner. Napalm.

Friction. put brakes on a spinning object. Ever touched a brake rotor after a few minutes of city driving? Attach your spinner to a hand crank or bike drive.

is the Huffy Plague a good flatland bike for beginners?

i want to get in to flatland and dont know what bike to get.any other suggestions or links?

Answer
Ignore the dude above me, he doesn't know what he's talking about. lol

I don't know what the Huffy bike looks like, but I DO know Flatland, and Huffy is not a brand that any serious Flatland rider will use.
If you want a bike that is grear for flatland, and not too expensive, here are 2 bikes I recommend... both are perfect beginner bikes for Flatland, and both are not too expensive, either...

http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1322
http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1331

The good thing about both of these bikes is that even though the parts are beginner orientated, the frames are jsut as good as pro-level frames, so if you stick with Flatland and you want to upgrade your bike, you can just upgrade the parts without having to get a whole new bike. All the parts you'll need are on that site... ( http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=2 ) I get all my parts from these guys, they are awesome :)
Flatland bikes are different to regular BMX's, in the sense that they are designed with light weight in mind, and frame and parts geometry to allow for easier spinning and one-wheel riding (shorter top tube).

To become more knowledgeable on all things Flatland, check out this site, and while ur there, join up and ask a few questions... you'll learn a lot :) http://www.global-flat.com/news/

Also, I highly recommend you get this dvd, it helped me a lot when I first started riding Flat... http://flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=630 The description of the product explains what it is, exactly. If you don't know many Flatland tricks, you will after watching this dvd.

Best of luck, bro...!! Flatland, as awesome as it is to pull tricks infront of hot chicks (lol), it's really frustrating to learn, so be patient, and don't give up. Every trick feels really awkward at first, and sometimes even impossible, but stick with it, and they will surely become easier.

Email me if you have any more questions, bro.

I just purchased a New in home Spin bike and I dont want it to become a new piece of furniture....I want to use it and continue to use it, but I am a serious couch potatoe...DVD's and the remote is what I'm used to....How can I get up?
Is it possible to gain new habits...purposly?

Answer
Yes, I too was and am secretly a couch tater. I get up with a good DVD workout, keep a diary of my good and bad habits- for accountablity, and have a secret body fantasy in mind while I workout.
If you dream it, you can acheive it- corny... hell yes, but it works. Get a picture of someone whose body you admire, and look at it everyday to keep sight of your goals. You can be just as hot with time and determination. It's going to be hard, but that is okay. It really is.

Is there a way to replace the spoke piece on my bikes computer?

Max

I just got a new computer for my bike (a cat one if it matters) and it came without the spoke piece thing that spins with the wheel.

Is there some makeshift way to put in a replacement for this thing, like a magnet and duct tape?

If not, can i buy just this one piece?

Answer
Contact cateye so they can send you one. You can buy replacement magnets. Check or call the local bike shop.

How can I make my bike sound better?

best spinning bike brands on ... Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huckjam Silver Bike - road bike shoes
best spinning bike brands image

Jake

I'm personally not worried about how loud my bike is, I have a 2004 Honda rebel 250. Will taking the baffles out mess up he bike? And is there any way I can remove them without drilling holes? I just want a quick easy way to make it sound better. I don't want to put to much time and money into a bike when I'm getting another soon. Any help?

Answer
It won't hurt performance, but you might have to rejet the carb.

Besides the sound baffles there are two other little items in the exhaust. There is also a spark arrestor screen and a turbulence screw.

The spark arrestor screen is just that, a screen that stops hot carbon pieces from exiting the exhaust. It is mainly made for off road, but is also required on road bikes.

The turbulence screw is something most guys don't know about. It looks like a giant screw thread or auger thread and it is welded into the exhaust pipes. The turbulence screw spins the exhaust gases so it doesn't free flow out.

I have never done it to a Honda Reble, but have done it to several other Honda's in the past. I would purchase a new muffler/silencer from an after market company that was a free flowing design. You can pick up used motorcycle silencers for under $50. Cut the pipes at where they line up with the back of the engine cases. Add an extension pipe (if needed) so you can mount the new/used muffler/silencer.

The motorcycle superstore sells brand new bolt on mufflers for under $100: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/118/39114/ITEM/Emgo-Dunstall-Replica-Universal-Muffler.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch

You can also make a car glass pack fit. They are only $25 new: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_thrush-glass-pack-mufflers-dynomax_5291585-p?zoneAssigned=1

If you are the ultimate cheap bastard and you do not want to drill out the baffles, you can try ramming them out. This will generally not work, because they are welded into place. You would need a really long metal rod center punch. This will work for the spark arrestor part, but not the baffles or the turbulence screw.

What is the best brand/model of spinning shoes to buy?

Nati M

I started spinning a few months ago and have decided I love it so much I want to get shoes.

What brand or model of spinning shoes do you recommend?

Answer
All spinning bikes use SPD pedals. I use mountain bike shoes with recessed cleats so I can walk easily when not spinning. You can order the shoes online, but I think it is a better idea to buy them at a local bike store so you can try them on. You will have to buy the shoes separately and then buy the SPD cleats. The mechanics at the bike shop should be able to install the cleats quickly if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. I use my old AXO mountain biking shoes which I love but unfortunately, that company is no longer making mountain biking shoes.

Below are some links to some nice shoes to consider:
