Our Power Spin bike with the "virtually silent" magnetic resistance system has suddenly started to make really loud knocking sounds when we ride it. The sound comes and goes but is so loud that others in the room can't hear the tv when someone rides the bike. Anyone know what the problem could be?

my experience of home excercises from magazines are very painful/hard and leave little result. Step machines are out because I have calf muscle issues and shouldn't be building those. Steppers seem to work my calves.

Answer
The right cardio exercise and weight training activities (like squats
and deadlifts) can make a difference in your backside and help you get
those buns of steel. Find out the best cardio and strength training
exercises for strengthening and firming up your rear.
1. Squats.
Squats are one of the best exercises you can do for your hips, butt
and thighs. Stand with feet hip-width apart and squat, keeping back
straight, abs in and knees behind your toes. Let your butt lightly
touch chair and squeeze butt to stand up. Repeat for 2-3 sets of 8-12
reps and add weights for more intensity.
2. Lunges. Stand in a split
stance, with feet about 3 feet apart. You want both knees to be at
about 90-degree angles at the bottom of the movement, so adjust
accordingly. Hold weights in each hand (or place a barbell behind the
neck) for added intensity. Bend the knees and lower the back knee
toward the floor, keeping the front heel down and the knee directly
over the centre of the foot. Keep the torso straight and abs in as you
push through the front heel and back to starting position. Don't lock
the knees at the top of the movement. Perform 1 to 3 sets of 10 to 16
reps according to your fitness level and goals.
3. Step Ups. For step
ups, you simply place one foot on a step or platform and push through
the heel onto the step. This is an excellent exercise for the glutes.
4. Hip Extensions. Lie on the floor with feet propped on the ball,
legs straight. Keeping abs tight, slowly lift your hips off the floor
(squeezing the buttocks) until body is in a straight line. Hold for a
few seconds and lower, repeating 10 to 15 times.
5. One-Legged Deadlifts. You should skip this exercise if you
have any back problems. To do this move, take the left leg back just a bit, lightly
resting on the toe. With the weights in front of the thighs, tip from
the hips and lower the weights as low as your flexibility allows. Keep
your back flat or with a natural arch and make sure you keep the abs
contracted to protect the back. Squeeze the glutes of the working leg
to raise back up. Do 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps.
6. Hiking. Now the
exercises listed above aren't the only strength moves for the glutes,
but we often forget that there are cardio activities that will also
engage the backside. Hiking is one of those activities and it also
burns tons of calories. Also, walking up an incline automatically gets
your glutes more involved and, if you're wearing a backpack, you're
really getting a workout. A 140-lb person burns about 390 calories in
about an hour!
7. Biking. Riding a bike is great for your heart and it
also targets almost every muscle in your hips, thighs and butt. On a
stationary bike, alternate 3 minutes at 70-80 RPM with 2 minutes at
100-110 RPM for a calorie-blasting 30 minute workout. You can also try
Spinning at the gym or riding outside. Gear up to really work your
glutes! A 140-lb person burns 335 calories in 45 minutes.
8. Running. Running, like walking, is accessible, easy to learn, reduces stress,
helps in weight loss, and it makes you feel good. Plus, it really
works your butt, especially when you add a few hills to your regular
running route. A 140-lb person burns 475 calories during a 45 minute
jog.
9. Kickboxing. Kickboxing was a hot item back in the day, but it's
still a great workout. Controlled kicks work your hips, thighs and
butt while complex combinations that include punches will target your
abs to make them stronger. A 140-lb woman will burn up to 500 calories
with 45 minutes of kickboxing.
10. Walking. Walking is easy: you can do
it anywhere, anytime with no special equipment. There's no learning
curve and it's something you can incorporate all day long. If you walk
up hills, you can really target your glutes and, if you pick up the
intensity, you'll burn some of that extra flab off your buns! A 140-lb
person burns about 300 calories an hour during a brisk walk.

Like many people, I have a cool car that I'd like to test the limits and have some fun with.
How can I find a place to do this - a place where I could test its handling, a long enough place to test its top speed, maybe even drag race a competitive friend.
I live in Colorado; perhaps there is some roadway that's made for these types of things which is free or won't kill my wallet? Then again, it doesn't necessarily have to be legal. I was thinking some unpopular highway out in the open land, curvy road in the mountains, or even an abandoned plane runway.
My question to you is: do you know of any places that I could have a lot of fun with little risk and/or a type of internet website that will have discussions about it, or possibly a tool that will find places like this for me (marked by other people, I would presume)?

I'm a responsible driver; as a result, I would never do anything stupid that would threaten my life or the life of others, so don't worry about that.

Anything would be appreciated!
Thank you, Sylphy - you solved my problem - I will simply go to one of the many various beaches in Colorado. Maybe I can venture out into one of our local rainforests afterwards.

Answer
Go to large chunks of unused pavement. I think big areas are better than narrow roads becuase you actually want to spin out. You gotta cross the limit to know where it is! Anyway, bring a couple of cones to spread around. Between 10 pm and 4 am is a good window to avoid the public. I am serious and I have done this. You can even go to Google and look at the aerial photos as you pan around the outskirts of your town to look for these chunks of pavement. You will likely end up on privately owned commercial or industrial property. These are called 'Spots'. At least they were ten years ago. You don't tell strangers about them. You don't post them on the internet. You don't stay too long. Other than Google, making friends in the right crowd will take you there.

Now, don't just go out there without a plan. Do some research and decide what you will do before you get there. I think acceleration is fun, but that is rarely a limit you'll care about. Besides, that's a rich man's feature. Instead, try hard braking! Approach a chalk line at 60 MPH and slam the brakes when you cross it. Either get the ABS to engage or if you don't have that, learn pedal modulation (even better learning!). Try throttle steering! Yup, go in circles and let up and get on the gas while holding the steering wheel still and you'll feel big ovals and tight turns with squeeling tires. Try Slalom! Weave in and out of the cones, parking blocks, whatever and you'll learn to watch the road instead to fhe obstacle. Do any of the above too fast. You'll be surprised how fast too fast really is. You want to feel that limit, then you know where to back off from.

Finally, and very well worth the money, find a Car Control Clinic. Lot's of car clubs do them. I did one at an airport with the BMW club in my 240sx. It was lot's of fun. I felt limits and beyond. I even used my new skills just a week later to avoid a collision with both a bike and oncoming car!

what is the best king to buy and why? I have never used one before and think I might get in to it.

Answer
I would check the local ebay, craig's list and paper for a used one. People buy these things all the time and give it up after a few weeks. They can get pretty boring but if you stick with it they are not too bad. I use a trainer in the Winter and ride the real thing once it gets nice. I real bike is a lot more fun and you can put them on a trainer when the weather gets bad.

If you choose to go with a cruiser, go with something in the 650cc-750cc range. Again, Honda, Yamaha (Star motorcycles) and Suzuki all make decent models in that range that would suit a novice. All would serve you well until you've outgrown them through sheer riding experience. That should take a few years unless you ride everyday, everywhere you go for the first two years. At that point you might be ready to move on to something else.

If you live anywhere where it snows, a rust bucket car would be enough to get you through the winter until riding season starts again. Buy yourself some reasonably priced protective gear (Cortech makes some great stuff at affordable prices and it's pretty good in the rain, too), a full-face helmet, leather gloves and above ankle boots. Do that and with any luck you'll survive 35 years on two wheels the way I have.

Do you recommend any good brand for scooter other than the expensive Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki?

I found a lot of cheap chinese mopeds but who wants to buy them anyway. I'm looking for good quality150cc moped for $2000 max.
Thanks in advance

Answer
The only reasonably well built and affordable bikes, other than the Japanese and European scooters, would be from KYMco and SYM. I have heard some very good things about these companies. Both are companies that have spun off from Honda and are based in Taiwan.

However, while a parts supply chain is in place, somewhat, there is a limited number of service centers for these brands at this time. As sales increase, KYMco and SYM will address these problems, but for the foreseeable future, the Japanese manufacturers have a lock on this market.

The other option is to go with the European scooters, which are in fact very well built, but have a rather high price tag on them. The parts supply chain for the European scooters is problematic at best, but workable.

If all you can afford, at this time, is a low buck Chinese scooter, than keep saving your money until you can afford a nice scooter. http://www.clevelandscooters.com/id60.html
There are some good used Japanese and European scooters out there as well. Just don't settle for something that there is no parts or service available for.

I just purchased a New in home Spin bike and I dont want it to become a new piece of furniture....I want to use it and continue to use it, but I am a serious couch potatoe...DVD's and the remote is what I'm used to....How can I get up?
Is it possible to gain new habits...purposly?

Answer
Yes, I too was and am secretly a couch tater. I get up with a good DVD workout, keep a diary of my good and bad habits- for accountablity, and have a secret body fantasy in mind while I workout.
If you dream it, you can acheive it- corny... hell yes, but it works. Get a picture of someone whose body you admire, and look at it everyday to keep sight of your goals. You can be just as hot with time and determination. It's going to be hard, but that is okay. It really is.

Sam

i'm 14 and im thinking about getting a dirt bike ive never rode one before but i have a normal bike and i rode a 4 wheeler before. im 5'2 and 94 pounds i was thinking maybe a older version yz125 or cr125 i dont wana spend too much money and im not gona be racing but i dont want a cheap quality bike that will break. i want something in the 1000$ range and if u could give me a website with older bikes (cheaper then newer models like 2013 or 2012 that would be great. thanks

Answer
The 125 2 stroke might be to big for you and your kinda to light for a 125 and all the bike will do is spin the tires. Id look into a 125 4 stroke like a yamaha ttr125 or a suzuki drz125. If u want something 2 stroke look at them 85l or big wheel or expert. Look at a suzuki rm85l or cr85 should be good or u can look into a kx100. Before you ride make sure u understand to shift gears and work the clutch. Good luck

Should I get a crf250r or a crf450r?

Sam

I am 14 years old and I have been riding for 9 years. I currently have a motocross built 2005 crf250x, and next year I will be getting either a crf250r or a crf450r (2013 either model). I weigh about 115 pounds. Is there a significant difference in power between the x and the r of the 250 model ? Or should I just jump to the 450?

Answer
There is quite a lot of difference between the x and r models, especially in the upper rev range. Do a little research to compare the torque and maximum horse power and you will find it seems not even to be the same bike they are giving the figures for, and really that is true, they are not the same bike. Although they are both 250's that superficially have the same engine they are a world apart in a lot of areas.

Given your age and weight a 450 would be very hard for you to get the power down to the track, you would have heaps of wheel spin but that is not forward motion. I also think that because of you age, being on your side, and only 5 years riding experience it would be too soon to step up to a 450 just now, especially from an x model and missing out racing a 250r. From a 250x to a 450r is a huge gap... That needs a lot of thinking about first, even ask a friend with a 250r if he would let you do a lap or two to check it out...

I just got a new computer for my bike (a cat one if it matters) and it came without the spoke piece thing that spins with the wheel.

Is there some makeshift way to put in a replacement for this thing, like a magnet and duct tape?

Learning to Forkglide in Flatland BMX, but can't balance on the front pegs once I do. Any help?

best spinning bike dvd on ... bike there are a few things that you should consider a spinning bike
best spinning bike dvd image

James

Started Flatland BMX a few days ago and tried getting a Forkglide down as my first trick so I could eventually learn how to do a Fire Hydrant. I've got the movement down and balance for about 1-3 seconds but always either fall off or bail because I know I'm going to fall. Any tips or tricks to learn how to ride on my front pegs after doing a fork glide?

Answer
Hey bud :) Great to hear that you have taken up Flat. It's an awesome sport, and I hope you stick through the frustration of learning tricks, because believe me, you CAN learn any trick if you keep at it. :)
Forkglide is a good place to start, and Firehydrant is a dope trick, especially when you add the Decade on the end. If you want to improve your balance on the rolling part of the forkglide, hold your seat with one hand and your bars with the other. This will help you to stay balanced. I use my right leg to balance, and left foot on the peg, so I would put my right hand on the bars, and left hand on the seat. In other words, whatever foot is on the peg, use ur other hand on the bars. This keeps an even balance on both sides of the bike.
To practise your rolling of the forkglide, stand in front of the bike, in the forkglide position, (make sure ur bars are turned 180 degrees, this makes it heaps easier), start with your balance leg on the ground, and just 'kick off' from the ground, and keep tapping the ground as you need to , to maintain balance, or even kick the tyre to keep your momentum going. You can do this up and down ur street, or the babsketball court ur riding on, and the more you practise it, the less you'll find urself tapping the ground for balance.
Things to remember...
- Steer with your arms, and keep them tensed. If you relax them, the bike will fall.
- Keep your head above the front axle, this will keep you in the centre of balance.
- The more upright you are, the easier it is. Keep ur back straight.
- On the ride in, do a small curve to the right or left, depending on which way you spin, and whip ur head and shoulders around first, the rest will follow. Get ur hand to the seat right away, to keep balanced.
- Keep your balance leg behind u on the forkglide, for more balance.
- For the ride out, put all the weight on your arms and the bars, and 'hop up' while you switch feet on the front pegs, so your other foot goes to the back peg, then switch hands on the bars, while you go for the pedals, then bar spin and ur away..!!

For some awesome info on tricks, order the dvd 'Ground Rules', by Matt Willhelm, from this website.
http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=38
It has 56 tricks, all explained in great detail, with all ride ins and outs, and tips on the trick. It helped me a lot when I started riding Flat :)
Stick with it, bud, you'll be pulling this trick in a matter of days.
If u want any more help with tricks, email me.

Oh, and make sure your seat post is up high. Set it to the maximun height allowed (it will be marked on your seat post with a 'max' indicator). When you start doing tricks that require you to hold the seat, this will make things heaps easier. Also it helps you find balance points when learning Hang-5's and stuff.

What is a good flatland bike to start out with that can be bought in stores in/around Coral Springs, FL?

omfgcookie

Yeah, I just recently wanted to start flatland biking. I've been looking around at the haro, wethepeople, etc. However none of them are sold in stores near me. Or they can be sold online BUT I need to be able to pay cash because I don't have a credit card available with me..ever..xD

Answer
Haro, WTP. Kink, Fly, etc.... DO NOT get one of these bikes if you want to ride Flatland. These are street bikes, and are too long and heavy for Flatland. No freecoasters on them either. Cranks are too long, too. A good Flatland bike will have a top tube length between 18" and 19.5". Anything longer just makes tricks too hard. Streeet bikes with 20"+ top tubes have too long a wheel-base to do tricks like rolling tailwhips, pinky-squeaks, and turbine tricks, where the frame whips around quickly. The long wheel-base makes this harder than it should be, and when ur learning, it can make things more frustrating. A bike with a shorter top tube spins a hell of a lot quicker.
My recommendation would be to get this one... http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1322
It's designed for Flatland use, and is an ideal beginners Flatland bike. All parts are upgradeable, for when you feel ur ready to upgrade, as your skill improves.

That website requires a credit card, but you can go to any local bike shop that stock DK bikes, and ask for them to order you one in.

Do urself a favour and get hold of this dvd, too. It's very usefull for a beginner to Flatland. http://www.flatlandfuel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=630

What to look for in a used bicycle?

Arthur

I don't know anything about bikes. I'm looking for a men's bike for mostly road use.

Answer
Arthur, Like most purchases, start with a budget.
Next decide what type of use and how much you will be using the bicycle. You said mostly road riding. Do you prefer straiaght bars like a mountain bike or curved bars like a racing bike? How many miles would you typically ride or eventually like to ride? The longer the distance, I would suggest a bicycle with higher quality components and frame.
Make sure the frame is the proper size for your inseam.

All of these questions could be answered for you at a bike shop. I would use their expertise to make sure whatever you purchase will be reliable, comfortable, and allow you to enjoy cycling for the purpose you intend.

If your intent is to buy a used bike to save money, make sure it is not really old because you will eventually need maintenance and components have changed dramatically over time. Make sure the frame has no damage that may show that it was in a wreck. Do the wheels, cranks, headset, and pedals spin without any woble or looseness or friction? Will you need to do much maintenance on it to get it into riding condition? Can you take it to a mechanic to review it?
Buying a used bike from an enthusiast will give you a better chance of knowing it was well maintained.

I use a pair of mountain shoes with eggbeater cleats. With the cold weather coming, I want to start training in spinning classes as well. Can I purchase SPD cleats and interchange them with my existing ones so I don't have to buy a pair of spinning shoes?

Answer
Same bolt pattern, when you change them note the location of the old cleat so when you install the SPD cleat it is in the same location in relation to the ball of your foot.

What are the best indoor spinning shoes(for women) less than $80?

Marquise

I have been searching for two weeks for a indoor cycling shoes for women that are less that $80.00 any suggestions? websites? stores?

Answer
Go to the local bike shop and try on a few pairs. You can find some good deals online at Nashbar or Performance Bike. Trying shoes on is the only way to find out what size you need. You want to get SPD mountain bike shoes and you will need a pair of cleats to go along with them. If you have a bike get a set of pedals, they come with cleats.

What are some ways to change bad habits?

Olive Cray

Answer
I'll try this once more. It is pretty clear you DON'T know "it" because you are asking here, right?

The Helios is not a stunt, trick, or street freestyle bike. It may be used for dirt freestyle or dirt jump.

The Eastern bike, as the catalog says, is for freestyle or dirt jump.

There is no need for a cable detangler on those bikes when using them the way they were designed.

Why do I have dreams about the end of the world, or vast chaos in one place so often?

Daryn

I don't sit around thinking about the end of the world, or anything, but for about a year now, I have constant dreams of something being destroyed, the end of the world, etc.
My most recent dream was me and I was with my friend (we'll call him D) and we were just kinda goofing off, and whatnot. It was cool and rainy, and we were fixing bikes and stuff.
Then, we were on this old sidewalk looking thing. On our right were some woods, to our left was a big field with talk grass.
I could see a cozy looking little house on the end of this trail.

It was darker, and I heard a low burring noise.
I looked up and asked my friend what it could be and we both stood still.
It got louder and I could see a plane coming lower and lower, louder and louder, just screaming.
This is where it gets crazy. I would think a plane just nose dives but this jet was freaking spinning in circles and stuff.

I never saw this wreck happen. But I did get moments of the aftermath, and all of the chaos around us.
It was just a weird dream.

I have also had dreams like where a big city (like New York) had an earth quake and then flooded.

Another dream were people out in the middle of no where and some alien things came and zapped the small buildings and stuff. It was a gory dream...

Why do I dream of stuff like this all of the time?

Any help would be appreciated. (:

Answer
You may not sit around thinking about the end of the world but your unconscious is picorking up the signals on a daily basis. Do you watch the national news? Have you watched any of the science or discovery or history 2 channels? The cabel networks are littered with programs on earthquakes, fires, tidal waves, floods, war and violence. It is nearly impossible in 2013 to completely avoid seeing these scenes repeated as if in real time flash before our eyes. Our unconscious picks up all of this information whether we are paying attention by listening or actually watching. If you are in the same house the data is picked up on an unconscious level and stored.
Now we all know about 911 and just last week those images were once again run on all the cabel networks. Concerning an earthquake and flood in New York.; that is already a prediction made by scientists and also tv programs on the stations mentioned have run this scenario numerous times. "I could happen tomorrow" is run by the weather channel and most likely you have seen this. The truth about New York is that it is on a fault line. It is a very deep and unusual type of fault and could give way at any time. an earthquake off the coast of this city would cause a tidal wave without notice having little distance to travel. The entire northeastern coast could receive the flooding effects of a suanami created by a slip on the NY fault. Thus, I don't feel these dreams symbolize anything more than truths of possible disasters that may or may not effect you. Since your dreams are coming to you and not me and on a consistant basis, perhaps you may want to go to the National Preparedness web site on homelandsecurity.gov and read up on how to prepare in your area. I do know that we are all suppose to have a 72 hour evacuation kit . Also, there are suggestions as to the storage of water and food for a year or so if possible. Praying and asking God what they mean will also be of help.

Answer
Today's riders are riding anything from 20 inch BMX to full suspension mountain bikes in parks. Many riders are sponsored. For instance Dave Mirra is sponsored by Haro. Someone mentioned Redline. They sponsor Tim "Fuzzy" Hall... The list goes on. If you are looking for a specific bike you need to go get on one. Do not go to Wal Mart. The first time you huck one of those, pieces will break. You will spend $ for a good bike. Jumping high is about speed and confidence. Spinning the bars are done one of three ways. Yes with gyros. These allow the cables to be "untangled" in the headset. The second is to ride with out brakes. Mat Hoffman rides brake-less... The third is to have brakes spin one way one time and the other the next. If you don't get it right you bind up and have a problem though...

Answer
Some of the staff that guarded inmates, where my Dad was a counselor, worked out at a camp. They were in need of sparring partners, so they were happy to hear that a martial artist right out of high school was ready to come work out with them. Almost everybody in that business are really good to people who have a good work ethic and they'll help you in all sorts of stuff in martial arts and your personal life.

Another group I worked out with I just met at the gym. They were working the mats and I was doing a spinning (fixed bike) class. I saw them fighting and asked if they could show me some moves. They were more than happy to let me work out with them.

As far as getting into a dojo that would eventually lead to prize fights or a show like the Ultimate Fighter, they usually hold open try outs. Typically those places have all have websites. You'll need some video of your workouts and a brief resume and maybe a referral to get recognized. You might also try your local YMCA wrestling and boxing clubs to get their opinions too.

How to Get Rid of Saddlebags

Fat that settles in over your hips, thighs and buttocks forms what some refer to as saddlebags. While genes certainly play a role, you can learn how to get rid of saddlebags through diet and exercise. By targeting your saddlebags with specific exercises, you may be able to get rid of them or at least minimize their appearance.

Steps
1 Stop overeating and maintain a healthy, low-calorie diet. Make sure most of your calories come from unprocessed fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

2 Blast away saddlebags with cardio exercise. To loose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. While walking is fine, it does not burn as many calories as heart-pumping dance workouts or even a walk-jog combination.
Start biking or check out a spinning class at your local exercise club. Working on an elliptical machine is also a good exercise for getting rid of saddlebags. Not only do these exercises burn calories, they build muscle to firm up any flab around the buttocks and hips.
Burn at least 400 calories 5 times a week. You may need to work up to this goal, so don't push yourself too hard if you can't sustain that level of activity in the beginning.

3 Include strength training into your exercise routine at least 3 times a week. Building muscles increases your body's ability to burn fat.

4 Do step-ups using a workout bench or exercise steps. Hold a dumbbells in each hand with your arms down at your side. Step up with your right foot onto the bench and then your left foot. Step down with your right, then your left foot. Repeat 10 times. Reverse the lead foot and repeat the exercise 10 times.
Beginners should start with 2-pound weights and work up to 15 pounds in each arm. Aim for 3 to 4 sets on each foot.

5 Perform side leg raises by putting on ankle weights and holding on to a wall or piece of furniture to gain balance. Lift your right leg up straight in front of your body as far as you can. Lower your leg and repeat 10 times. Switch legs and lift 10 times. Keep your hips straight during the exercise
Aim for 3 or 4 sets on each leg.

6 Do leg lift exercises on the floor. Extend your legs and lie on your right side, with your hips stacked and your head supported by your right elbow. Raise your leg as high as you can and lower it. Repeat 10 times and then switch sides. Keep your abdominal muscles tight.
Aim for 3 sets per leg. You can use resistance bands or ankle weights for a more advanced workout.

7 Modify your leg lifts by getting on your hands and knees, with your hands below your shoulders and your knees below your hips. With your knee bent, raise your left leg out to the side as high as you can. Hold it for 2 seconds and lower the leg back down. Keep your abs tight and your hips in line with your body. Repeat 10 times and switch legs.

8 Aim for 3 sets on each leg.

Warnings

It's a good idea to get approval from your doctor before attempting an exercise routine, especially if you have pain in your lower body or if you have any disabilities.

Hand weights
Ankle weights

i do heaps of ab workouts and have a hard stomach but its still round?

hello there,
i have been trying to lose my stomach for about 2 months now!
my stomach is really hard and i do heaps of ab workouts, but my stomach is still kind of round down the bottom half ...
please help me!
i do MMA (kickboxing, boxing, jiu jitsu) 3 times a week and i use a spin bike for the other 4 days for atleast a hour

Answer
You may never have a flat abdomen because you could have spinal lordosis. Many people do and it prevents a flat abdomen because the spine curves inward (concave) in the lower T and L vertebrae pushing the belly out. It's genetic and there is no remedy. Ref: http://www.healthopedia.com/pictures/lordosis.html That's why's it important to ascertain why your abdomen is not flat and then ask your question while providing that information.

However, assuming you have a perfect spine and your problem is excess fat at the waistline, you'll need to burn the subcutaneous fat (under the skin) and the visceral fat (intraabdominal). And, because the belly is where most women add fat first, it's also where they lose it last. So, you're probably going to have to diet down to less than 10% body fat before your abs will be as exposed as possible.

"Cardio" or any kind of exercise is NOT necessary although it may help. The key to burning body fat is diet. You must get your caloric intake under control so you can create a caloric deficit (burn more calories then you consume) to lose fat. And, that has to happen with diet because you can always eat more calories than you can burn. For more on that, read my answer here --> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlTDB0OPAGPzNFiPDNJ4QZXty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111013033752AA48FJG

Your abs will require a long term commitment to diet and proper eating habits to ensure you not only lose the fat from that part of the body where it's most difficult to lose, but to ensure you keep the fat away as well. Few people are up for such a stringent commitment and if you fail, it may help to remember that men really prefer women with a smooth abdomen (think belly dancer). It is one of several characteristics which men are programmed by evolution to find attractive along with ample breasts and tush, broad hips, etc. The more women look like men, the less desirable they become.

What (non competitive)bikes do you recommend for a short woman?

I am 5 foot 1. I was looking online at a 26in folding bike, but I haven't been on a bike in years, I don't know if that is too big for me. I also don't want to spend a lot of money on the bike. I would use the bike to get around my neighborhood, nothing serious.

Answer

I would never suggest a folder for a rider. Short woman or tall man. Is your concern that the bike will be too big? Whether a 26 or larger wheel, they make bike for our height. They design the bike around the wheels, and then cut the tubes for the various sized riders who will ride them. The one advantage f getting a 26 inch wheel for you is the fact that it will spin up to speed easier than a larger wheel, yet still have good rolling qualities. Smaller wheels may be easier to roll up to speed, but their rolling characteristics suck.

The only reason to get a folder would be for a specific reason ... a commuter to keep on the train, a marina bike to store on a boat. It would never be my bike of choice for a serious rider. A good hybrid bike would be my bike of choice for you.

How can a tall man make his butt smaller?

Broken Sai

I'm relatively in shape. Just finished the lovely P90X program and happy with what I'm seeing...all cept one part.

My butt is still larger than I'd like it to be. I know some people like the larger booties, but I could use a reduction.

Are there any exercises anyone can suggest that will help me make my butt shrink? Thanks!!!
