i'm 14 and im thinking about getting a dirt bike ive never rode one before but i have a normal bike and i rode a 4 wheeler before. im 5'2 and 94 pounds i was thinking maybe a older version yz125 or cr125 i dont wana spend too much money and im not gona be racing but i dont want a cheap quality bike that will break. i want something in the 1000$ range and if u could give me a website with older bikes (cheaper then newer models like 2013 or 2012 that would be great. thanks

Answer
The 125 2 stroke might be to big for you and your kinda to light for a 125 and all the bike will do is spin the tires. Id look into a 125 4 stroke like a yamaha ttr125 or a suzuki drz125. If u want something 2 stroke look at them 85l or big wheel or expert. Look at a suzuki rm85l or cr85 should be good or u can look into a kx100. Before you ride make sure u understand to shift gears and work the clutch. Good luck

Should I get a crf250r or a crf450r?

I am 14 years old and I have been riding for 9 years. I currently have a motocross built 2005 crf250x, and next year I will be getting either a crf250r or a crf450r (2013 either model). I weigh about 115 pounds. Is there a significant difference in power between the x and the r of the 250 model ? Or should I just jump to the 450?

Answer
There is quite a lot of difference between the x and r models, especially in the upper rev range. Do a little research to compare the torque and maximum horse power and you will find it seems not even to be the same bike they are giving the figures for, and really that is true, they are not the same bike. Although they are both 250's that superficially have the same engine they are a world apart in a lot of areas.

Given your age and weight a 450 would be very hard for you to get the power down to the track, you would have heaps of wheel spin but that is not forward motion. I also think that because of you age, being on your side, and only 5 years riding experience it would be too soon to step up to a 450 just now, especially from an x model and missing out racing a 250r. From a 250x to a 450r is a huge gap... That needs a lot of thinking about first, even ask a friend with a 250r if he would let you do a lap or two to check it out...
